Benzamycin is a combination of Erythromycin, and Benzoyl Peroxide. This is a topical treatment for acne blemishes that delivers an antibiotic and antibacterial cleaner together in a topical cream. Benzoyl Peroxide also helps increase cell growth so that new, healthier skin will emerge once the acne clears. This combination has been known as very effective as a prescription acne treatment. This is available by prescription only and is applied after the face has been washed and dried. It’s not generally prescribed for cystic acne.
Some Benzamycin users have a few side effects including: skin dryness or redness as well as itching. Sometimes, decreasing the number of applications can help. Sunscreen should be applied or staying in the shade by Benzamycin users as they could be more susceptible to sunburn damage on their face. If you become sunburned you should not apply this medication on the burned areas until your burn heals. This product can also bleach areas it comes in contact with so you may want to protect your clothing and linens. It’s important to follow dosage instructions carefully and to speak with your doctor about any concerns.
The formulation of this medication is a ratio of 30 grams of Erythromycin with 50 grams of Benzoyl Peroxide gel. Benzamycin is best maintained by being stored in a tight container in the refrigerator.
Is this a safe drug for pregnant or nursing women? Pregnant or nursing women should talk to their doctor about the risks of using this medication. Some believe that because it is applied on the skin and not absorbed into the bloodstream, the risks are minimal but there isn’t proof either way that this is or is not potentially harmful to a fetus or nursing infant so you are best to weigh your options and talk to your family doctor and/or dermatologist. Some acne medications are extremely harmful to a developing fetus so it’s very important to review your acne treatment with your doctor if you are or are planning to become pregnant.
When using this medicine, it’s wise to be careful about other skin products that you use on your face. It’s best not to use a medicated soap or other acne medications or ointments during your Benzamycin course of treatment due to the ingredients in your treatment. Drying soaps or cleaners could increase your chances of skin irritations and discomfort.
Many acne sufferers have had great success with Benzamycin. Both medications can be effective on their own and together, have proven to be especially helpful in the treatment of existing acne as well as the prevention of new pimples and blackheads.
